State Police release video of trooper involved shooting that left man dead in Ascension Parish

ASCENSION PARISH, LA — The chilling, undeniable details of a deadly trooper-involved shooting have finally been forced into the public eye after Louisiana State Police (LSP) released the Critical Incident Briefing Video (CIBV) documenting the death of a man during what began as a routine traffic stop. The footage raises disturbing questions about the escalation of force that ended a life.

On September 30, 2025, in the early hours of the morning, 34-year-old Brandon Nicholas of Sunshine, LA, was pulled over near the intersection of LA Hwy 431 and LA Hwy 935 for a traffic violation. What should have been a simple citation quickly devolved into a fatal confrontation.

A LIFE CUT SHORT DURING A FRACAS

LSP confirms that during the traffic stop, Nicholas became involved in an "altercation" with the Trooper. In the course of this struggle, the State Trooper discharged their service weapon, fatally striking Nicholas. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

While investigators claim a loaded firearm was "recovered at the scene," the video footage—which contains body-worn camera and dashboard camera recordings—is now the centerpiece of an active investigation by the LSP Bureau of Investigations – Force Investigation Unit. The public, weary of excessive force incidents, will scrutinize every second of the released footage to determine if the use of deadly force was truly necessary or simply another instance of a law enforcement interaction spiraling out of control.

The Trooper involved was reportedly uninjured. Meanwhile, a community is left with yet another grieving family, desperately seeking answers for why a minor traffic stop had to end with a citizen losing his life.
