Man found in graveyard parking lot sleeping in car next to wife's dead body
MADISON COUNTY, Ind. (WKRC) - A man was found sleeping in his car in the parking lot of a cemetery next to his wife, who he had just shot several times.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office received a call at around 3 p.m. on June 26, 2024 regarding a "suspicious vehicle" outside of the Forrestville Cemetery, according to Law&Crime.
Local outlet WTHR reported that the 911 caller discovered an SUV with two unresponsive people inside, one man and one woman. The caller said they knocked on the window, but neither person inside responded.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they immediately noticed that the woman in the drivers' seat, Michela Hinson, was deceased from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. The other man, 49-year-old Jeremy Hinson, was initially unresponsive but eventually woke up and exited the vehicle.
Authorities immediately noticed a handgun in Hinson's waistband, which was removed before the man was taken to the hospital for treatment of a possible overdose, per The Herald Bulletin.
Further forensic testing found blood on Hinson's face, arms, hands, and feet, and uncovered five bullet holes in the car seat Michela was sitting in. Also in the car was five bullet casings, a loaded 9 millimeter handgun, and an additional magazine.
Hinson allegedly indirectly confessed to the murder during a conversation with a family member.
"Obviously I wasn't thinking right," Hinson allegedly said. "I don't know what happened to make me do that."
Hinson was found guilty on one count of murder and one count of felony firearm enhancement, and was sentenced to 75 years in a state correctional facility on Tuesday.
