Man allegedly shot 5 people, killing 3, then crashed vehicle into a Buc-ee's
ENNIS, TX — The chilling rampage of a suspected triple-murderer culminated in a shocking and cowardly act of destruction at a popular Buc-ee's convenience store, where the fugitive slammed his vehicle into the building's entrance, critically injuring an innocent bystander before turning the gun on himself.
Christopher Kyle Reid Jr., 29, is the suspect wanted for a heinous triple homicide that occurred just hours earlier in Mabank, Texas. The three victims—Kimberly Simpson, 51; Connie Patrick, 72; and Rodney Hammonds, 57—were brutally killed in a home where at least one of the victims, believed to be the suspect's brother, desperately ran for help, pleading that "his brother shot him" before collapsing.
The manhunt for Reid ended in sheer chaos and terror at the Buc-ee's in Ennis. Instead of facing accountability for the lives he allegedly destroyed, Reid chose a path of reckless violence. Driving a Dodge Caravan, he deliberately crashed through the front entrance of the crowded store.
The impact was immediate and devastating: an unsuspecting pedestrian, a woman in her 30s from Oklahoma, was struck and pinned against a sales display near the main door. Her leisurely stop at the roadside rest area was violently shattered by the suspect's final, desperate act.
After causing this horrific scene and grievously injuring a civilian, Reid pulled out a firearm and shot himself in the head in an apparent suicide attempt.
While the injured shopper was rushed to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, she is a victim of a crime that extended far beyond its initial bloody scene. The fact that the suspect chose to inflict one last moment of terror upon the public before attempting to escape justice is an unforgivable demonstration of malice.
Reid was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Authorities are now grappling with the aftermath of a murderer who, in his final moments of flight, managed to turn a beloved roadside stop into a crime scene, reminding the public that true justice has been partially delayed by his self-inflicted injuries.
