Ohio woman found guilty in fatal stabbing of 3-year-old boy outside grocery store

CLEVELAND, OH — Justice has taken its first agonizing step forward, but the scars of an unspeakable crime remain: A jury has found Bionca Ellis, 34, guilty on all counts for the heinous, unprovoked murder of an innocent three-year-old boy, Julian Wood, in a suburban Cleveland parking lot.

The verdict, returned after a week-long trial, convicts Ellis of Aggravated Murder and multiple other charges, confirming the nightmare of the Wood family: a random, vicious act that stole a toddler’s life in a matter of seconds.

THE FACE OF EVIL: AMBUSH AT THE GROCERY STORE

The details of the June 2024 attack at the Giant Eagle in North Olmsted are a sickening chronicle of calculated violence. Prosecutors revealed that Ellis, armed with two stolen knives, stalked mother Margot Wood and her son as they exited the store.

The victim was completely defenseless, secured in a shopping cart, when Ellis allegedly rushed them and plunged a knife into the child multiple times in a brutal ambush that lasted less than five seconds. The mother, in a desperate, heroic attempt to shield her baby, suffered a stab wound herself. Julian, stabbed in the face and the back, died shortly after.

Witness testimony revealed the killer’s chilling indifference: when confronted by a bystander who asked if she knew she had just stabbed a child, Ellis reportedly responded with a contemptuous shrug.

Ellis' defense—a flimsy attempt to plead not guilty by reason of insanity—was rightly rejected by the jury. Her calculated actions, from stealing the weapons to stalking her targets, expose a depraved mind capable of planning the most horrific act imaginable.

The community is demanding the maximum penalty for the monster who shattered a family over a simple grocery run. Ellis now faces a sentence of life in prison, and any possibility of parole would be a grievous insult to the memory of Julian Wood. Her sentencing is scheduled for October 27.
